Top 5 on Friday Food Porn

Via The Mistress

Top 5 albums that you can’t stop playing lately, and tell us why you love them!

This is not that easy for me because I mostly listen to homemade mixes and not whole albums..but I’ll surge ahead nonetheless…

1. Octivarium – Dream Theater
This, for me, is the perfect prog album. Many of the DT Metal heads were bored by this one, preferring the darker Train of Thought or Systematic Chaos. They both have their high points but this one hits me from start to finish.

2. One – Neal Morse
More prog and featuring Portnoy on drums. Morse is a masterful songwriter and the Christian theme here works well. Another one that’s great from beginning to end.

3. Of Whales and Woe – Les Claypool
I’m cheating with this one. Most of the album does nothing for me but a single track, One Better, I find myself playing over and over, probably because it sounds closer to Primus than the rest of the work.

4. Peter Gabriel (the first one)
I hadn’t listened to this is awhile but pulled it out last weekend and it’s been floating through my head all week. My least favorite is the one everyone knows, Solsbury Hill, but I’ve always loved the rest of the LP, particularly Humdrum and Here Comes The Flood.

5. Foxtrot – Genesis
I just got a copy of the remastered CD so It’s been playing for awhile. Back when Genesis actually made an effort.

This week…from the Epicurious Recipe files….
