So 2009 is coming to a close and many folk get literal in demanding that we are also coming to the end of the first decade of the 21st century…which is numerically correct. So we will begin to see not only “Best of..” lists for 2009 but “Best of..” lists for the decade. Prepare thyself.
One of the first that caught my attention was the top 10 best books of 2009 as selected by the bastion of liberal thought, The New York Times. They also have produced the 100 Most Notable books of 2009, the Top 10 Mysteries of 2009 and issued Janet Maslin’s 10 Best Books of 2009. Of these 130 books (well, probably more like 107 as there are overlaps in the lists) I can safely say I’ve read….
none of them. And that’s coming from a dyed-in-the-wool book addict. I cannot even say I’ve heard of all them…maybe about 15%…maybe you are better read than I am….
