55 FFF & Bush Economy

And she’s taller than most
And she’s looking at me
I can see her eyes looking from a page in a magazine
Oh she makes me feel like I could be a tower
A big strong tower
This is what I wanna be
Suddenly I see
Why the hell it means so much to me
– KT Tunstall

Sorry – just couldn’t come up with anything on my own this week.  In other news..

“President [Bush] acknowledged [today] that many Americans are now in a difficult position, but he also stressed that the $170 billion stimulus package passed by Congress last month would help spur growth, adding that the checks should be in the mail by the second week of May.

“Fortunately we recognized the slowdown early and took action,” he said.

Under the plan millions of Americans will receive one-time tax rebates. Businesses will get temporary tax breaks and homeowners will get help with securing or refinancing mortgages in in higher cost markets.

But Bush also took aim at some proposed housing bailout measures, warning that acting too aggressively could result in “far-reaching and unintended consequences.””

while in another part of town……

“With the credit crisis worsening, the government took action to prevent [Bear Sterns] from going under and igniting widespread panic through the financial markets.

Bear Stearns (BSC, Fortune 500) shares plunged as much as 53% before moving off their lows to trade 39% lower in the early afternoon.

The announcement did not indicate how much funding Bear Stearns would receive, but executives said in a conference call Friday afternoon that with the money, the firm will “have the ability to fund ourselves every day, to do business as usual (emphasis mine).”

Business as usual?  Great….so they can keep making stupid mistakes and continto be bailed out by money supplied by YOU and ME, or by the Fed who keeps printing money without regard to the long term consequences.  Read your history books, say around the 1920’s and 30’s focusing on Germany…something about the Government printing money by the truckload, devaluing the mark to such an extent as to send the country into a depression that makes the US Great Depression look like a picnic.

Start stuffing your mattress with money now…it may return to being worth something someday as we all sit around campfires eating Alpo….

55 FFF

I know I keep jumping around with this..starting and stopping different stories…just waiting until something really grabs me…is there such a thing as 55 block?? Anyway…

surrounded…..can’t breathe…gasping…flailing

struggling blindly…sinking further…help…help

something grabs my arm and pulls…air…choking…coughing…I can breathe

spitting water…eyes start to clear

Picked up again…Let me go…put me down…don’t you do it…

Thrown through the air…crash…surrounded once again…lungs ache…no safe place

blind…suffocating…panic…no sound…gulping…desperate thrashing

pulled once again…breathing again…stupid ass swim teacher

God Dammit, Mom, why didn’t you stop him?

55 FFF – Part 3 & a Question

The meal is exquisite. Cold shredded lobster salad on fresh greens with crisp champagne. The man watches a raven-haired woman take a forkful of lobster meat, her tongue and lips slowly pulling the white fish into her mouth. Her eyes dart towards her fixated audience of one. He raises a champagne glass to toast her.

My buddy KFarmer asked me a good question that I thought would be fun to share…
Do you remember the first record (album, tape or CD depending on your age) you ever bought? What was it and do you still have it?
I had a ton of 45s but the first real album purchase I made was the first Crosby, Stills & Nash and Led Zeppelin II. How’s that for consistency??? I recently threw out both of them because I’m trying to lighten my album load, they were worn out and I have them both on CD now.

55 FFF – Part 2

It was another Jackson McGonaghal party. A gathering of the powerful drawn together to pay homage, financial and otherwise, to the multi-national industrialist responsible for technological breakthroughs in medical treatment and communications. For one male guest, however, the purpose of the gathering was radically different.
Gentle bells sound, moving the crowd to the dining room.

55 FFF – A New Start

The dinner party was extravagant. A gathering of custom-made tuxedos and gowns mingled in a salon of classic decoration muted by subtle light and faint Chamber music. Conversation and laughter rose and fell from the guests as twilight poured orange-purple light through the glass encased back wall framing the sun setting over an endless lake.

55 Flash Fiction Fryday

Echoing footsteps on the cold cement.
“…that I may win Christ. And be found in him…”
Steel chair, arms and legs bound.
Head strapped tightly, locked in place.
“…the righteousness which is of God by faith…”
Cold sweat, enveloping fear.
“Amen.”
Dark silhouettes watching…waiting
Snap! Nerves thrash. No breath. Silent scream. Fire of blackness!
Peace.

55 Flash Non-Fiction

I had a kewl fifty-five written, but I had a feeling its meaning was open to misinterpretation so I chickened out and scrapped it. Such is the case with insecure writers. So I move on into justification and drivel. Not every work is Shakespeare and some phrases are better left unturned for my own sanity.
